Oaxaca was not initially in our travel itinerary . We had Extended family gathering at Cancun from August 7-12 22 and was looking for a destination to add for a side trip in Mexico. Chiapas was a lot more appealing to me for the nature and scenic beauty. However the new about the Zapatista revel forcing armed forces in San Cristóbal came in my twitter feed. Consensus was it is not safe to travel to Chiapas.. Research indicated that Oaxaca is hidden gem. . So the Oaxaca was selected. Soon after our buying air-tickets from Cancun, the news came justifying the choice.. The Travel + Liesure magazine of July '22 issue of "The 25 Best Cities in the World" based on mix of culture, food, and friendliness. ranked Oaxaca as number one city in the world. Our four-day short trip to Oaxaca reconciled with the ranking. . It's a dream gastronomic destination, especially for mole and mezcal enthusiasts.
Monte Alban is one of Mexico's most eminent archeological sites. Enormous. Enigmatic.
